The Master of Science in Emergency Management degree is a 39 credit program that culminates in an emergency management capstone research project and presentation. This degree program has been designed for working professionals who need to fit course work around their busy life and career responsibilities. Students study part time in the evenings and can complete the program in two calendar years by taking three courses a semester.
Students complete 30 core program credit requirements by completing required emergency management courses through University College and required management courses through the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business. Students then concentrate their studies in Homeland Security, providing an all-hazard understanding of emergency management. Students then complete the program by preparing and presenting a comprehensive research paper in the summative Capstone course. If a student has taken coursework similar to a course within their program of study, they may request that the course be transferred into their program at Adelphi. To make this request, the student must provide their advisor with the syllabus from the course and a copy of their transcript demonstrating course completion, with a grade of B or higher. If the course is deemed to be equivalent, the program may transfer the course in. Up to six credits (2 courses) can be transferred in total.
