STEP TESOL Education is a unique, five-year, combined bachelor’s and master’s program for undergraduate students preparing to teach school-age English language learners in PreK-12 classrooms.  The program leads to the B.A./M.A.or B.S./M.A. degrees and New York State certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).  The program provides a combination of current theory and practical application in English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction and prepares teachers to meet the needs of diverse communities.

Students in STEP TESOL Education must major in one of the liberal arts and sciences and complete all the University and NYS certification General Education requirements. All liberal arts majors that lead to a B.A. or B.S. degree including economics (from the School of Business) and psychology (from the Derner Institute) are acceptable majors.  The structure of STEP TESOL Education is particularly effective in meeting the needs of the transfer student.  Like all students in the B.A./M.A. or B.S./M.A. TESOL Program, transfer students must meet the 12 credit foreign language requirement.

Candidates are required to take Dignity for all Students Act (DASA) Anti-bullying Workshop.
