Program Description

The department offers a course of study leading to an M.A degree in physical education with an optional specialization in adapted physical education. The specialization is offered for those with prior certification in Pre K–12 physical education. The 36 credit program prepares teachers as specialists in adapted physical education and to work with students with disabilities in a variety of school-based environments. Graduates of the program will receive an M.A. degree in physical education with a certificate of specialization in adapted physical education [note that New York State does not offer Teacher Certification in Adapted Physical Education].

  • Before starting the program, students may be able to transfer up to 6 credits of non-Adlephi graduate level courses and up to 9 credits of Adelphi graduate level courses to the program upon adviser’s approval, not to exceed 9 total transfer credits.
