The Computer Science 5-year program provides students with the opportunity to complete a BS and MS within 5 years of study. It is intended primarily for students who would like to 1) accelerate their graduate schooling by one year; and 2) gain specialized training for employment in computer science fields beyond the Bachelor of Science degree. A maximum of 12 credits associated with these courses may be applied to meet the degree requirements for both the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science. Upon earning the Computer Science, B.S., with permission of the Graduate Coordinator, students may matriculate into the Master of Science degree. The graduate credits earned during the junior/senior year (see below) will be added to the student’s graduate transcript, enabling the completion of the Master of Science in Computer Science with as little as 18 credits in the fifth year.
4+1 Criteria (include GPA requirements):
- Met all of the requirements of the undergraduate major, as well as those relevant to the overall undergraduate degree;
- Maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.2 or higher in the undergraduate major (Computer Science) during the final four semesters;
- Maintain an overall Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher in all undergraduate studies during the students final six semesters;
- Have permission of the Graduate Program Director for Computer Science to enroll in the designated graduate level courses in Computer Science, subject to the requirements of each degree at the time of entry;
- Only graduate courses with an earned grade of B (3.0/4.0) or higher, taken while enrolled as an undergraduate, will also count toward the Master’s degree requirements.
- Matriculate into the Master’s program immediately upon completing the Bachelor’s degree.
