3+4/4+4 (B.A./B.S./D.O.) Early Acceptance Program (EAP) with the LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine

Adelphi University has a 3+4 Early Acceptance Program with LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine in which students study for three years at Adelphi. After completing 90 credits at Adelphi, students begin their first year of medical school which counts as the final 30 credits needed to be eligible for the bachelor’s degree at Adelphi. The bachelor’s degree will be awarded by Adelphi University after the first year of medical school. After successful completion of the fourth year at LECOM students are eligible for the D.O. degree.

Adelphi University also has a 4+4 Early Acceptance Program with LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine in which students’ study for four years at Adelphi and earn their B.S. or B.A. degree. The Early Acceptance Program is designed to facilitate the admission of Adelphi University students into LECOM’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) program. After successful completion of the fourth year at LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine, students are eligible for the D.O. degree.

LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine Program (3+4) Admissions Eligibility Requirements 

  • Completion of at least (90) credits of course work at Adelphi, including completion of all General Education requirements, all major coursework and the following pre-requisite coursework:

       o Biology with lab: BIO 111   & BIO 112  
       o Chemistry with lab: CHE 111   & CHE 112  
       o Organic Chemistry with lab: CHE 251  /CHE 253  & CHE 252  /CHE 254  
       o Physics 1 with lab: PHY 111   or PHY 113  
       o Biochemistry with lab: CHE 471  /CHE 473  or BIO 504  
       o Genetics: BIO 222  
       o 2 Behavior Sciences Courses (Preferred): Psychology: PIA 101   and Sociology: SOC 100  
       o 2 English Classes (AP score of 4 or 5 will be accepted)

  • Maintain a 3.5 overall GPA and 3.2 science GPA.
  • No final grade below a C in any course.
  • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is waived.
  • The student must submit a LECOM on-line College of Medicine Application by November 1 of the junior year.
  • Attend a LECOM On-Campus Day (Erie, PA)– Held in August of each year.
  • Must complete a satisfactory interview with LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine Admissions Committee.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.

 

LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine Program (4+4) Admissions Eligibility Requirements 

  • Completion of B.S. or B.A. degree with Adelphi and the following pre-requisite coursework at Adelphi:

       o Biology with lab: BIO 111   & BIO 112  
       o Chemistry with lab: CHE 111  &CHE 112  

       o Organic Chemistry with lab: CHE 251  /CHE 253   & CHE 252  /CHE 254  
       o Physics 1 with lab: PHY 111   or PHY 113  
       o Biochemistry with lab: CHE 471  /CHE 473   or BIO 504  
       o Genetics: BIO 222  
       o 2 Behavior Sciences Courses (Preferred): Psychology: PIA 101   and Sociology: SOC 100  
       o 2 English Classes (AP score of 4 or 5 will be accepted)

Requirements for Acceptance to the Early Admissions Program


Entering Freshman:

  • Applicants for the 3+4 program must apply to Adelphi and indicate their interest in the “Early Admissions Program” with LECOM. Students also formally apply to the Early Admissions Program through a link on the LECOM website
  • Minimum SAT score of 1360 on the reading and writing and math sections or minimum ACT score of 29 is required.
  • High School grade point average of at least 3.7 (3.5 high school GAP for the 4+4 program).
  • Demonstrate definite interest in the medical profession and awareness of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Must show evidence of community involvement.
  • Have reasonable communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Complete an Affiliated Undergraduate College Inquiry form found on the LECOM website.
  • Submit to interview at LECOM no later than February of the senior year of high school.
  • Interview with Adelphi once receiving a “Provisional Letter of Acceptance” from LECOM 
  • students in the 3+4 program must pursue a baccalaureate degree in science.
  • The program is limited to five students. When openings occur, participants will be drawn from an alternates list.

Transfer students from community colleges are eligible for a 4+4 program on a case by case basis.

Current Adelphi Students
• Open to current students on a case by case basis when openings are available. Students in the 3+4 program can switch to a 4+4 on a case by case basis.

LECOM Admission Requirements


Candidates must complete all General Education requirements and all requirements for their major that will not be met by credits transferred back from LECOM. They must complete the following courses:

Eight semester hours each of:

  • General Biology with Labs
  • General Chemistry with Labs
  • Organic Chemistry with Labs
  • General Physics with Labs .

As well as:

  • Six semester hours of English Composition and Literature
  • Introductory Psychology or equivalent
  • Introductory Sociology or equivalent,
  • Statistics (one semester)
  • Biochemistry

In addition, all candidates must do the following:

  • Earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 and a 3.5 index in all science courses.
  • Complete a formal application through AACOMAS during their junior year.

The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT or MCAT2015) is not required for admission. Instead, a sliding scale using the original SAT or ACT score and cumulative grade point average will be used.

The program is binding and students will forfeit their reserved spot if they then apply to another medical school.
