BIO (0105) 213 - Introduction to Neurobiology

Credits: 3

Students will learn the fundamental concepts of cellular and molecular neurobiology.  Students will be introduced to basic neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, including electrophysiological properties, development and the specialized communication that takes place between neural cells.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

Identify the structure and cell biology of neurons and glial cells

Relate structure and function within the brain and spinal cord

Describe the synapse, basic neuronal circuitry and the role of neurotransmitters

Summarize basic principles of neurophysiology

Identify the parts of the visual and auditory systems
