This course provides basic understanding of optical communication systems, including recent technological advances. Topics include components of an optical communication system, propagation characteristics of optical fibers, lightwave sources such as light-emitting diodes and semiconductor lasers, optical receivers, noise analysis and bit error rate, coherent communication systems, multi-channel systems, solution-based systems.
