Environmental problems, including pollution, climate change and natural resource depletion are rooted in structural inequalities, oppression and lack of understanding of systemic social–ecological interdependencies.  This Ecological Justice in Social Work Certificate in the MSW program gives students foundational skills and knowledge in environmental justice, positioning them to address environmental justice concerns in their future employment and enhance their capacity to work in host settings that directly respond to environmental justice issues.  Program components include, 1) three electives including a specialized elective titled, Ecological Justice in Social Work, 2) a field placement focusing on ecological justice, and 3) an integrated field seminar integrating ecological justice coursework content and field placement responsibilities.
