Note: The In-service track is open to candidates who hold a NYS teaching certificate. Please consult an adviser for recommended course sequences, fieldwork and other program requirements.

Dual Inservice - SWD/Bilingual

Student Teaching and Reflective Practice Seminar (3 credits)


  • Credits: 3.00 (Fall or Spring)

  • Advisor approved elective if teaching experience meets NYS Limited Exemption for candidates with prior teaching experience (see note below).

    Note: A candidate who is enrolled in a graduate-level program leading to certification in one or more certificates shall be exempt from the requirements for clinical experiences if such candidate satisfies one or more of the following conditions: 1) they have completed a New York State registered teacher preparation program prior to enrollment and hold an Initial and/or Professional certificate 2) hold National Board certification or 3) have at least one year of effective teaching under a valid New York State or out-of-state teaching license or certificate.

Additional Requirements for Program Completion/State Certification


  • Satisfactory completion of Content Core Requirements and General Education courses, including a foreign language.
  • Maintenance of 3.0 GPA in all program coursework
  • All teacher certification candidates must take and pass the New York State Teacher’s Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) required for their particular area of certification which includes the Content Specialty Test in Students with Disabilities and the BEA
  • Candidates will be required to complete the NYSED DASA workshop
