Childhood Students with Disabilities: All Grades - Bilingual Certification In-Service Track, M.S.

This program leads to a Students with Disabilities (SWD) All Grades and Bilingual Extension. This inservice track is open to candidates who hold a valid base NYS teaching certificate other than special education or bilingual education.

 All courses are 3 credits. Courses with an * indicate number of required fieldwork hours.

During the student teaching experience candidates will be observed by Adelphi faculty supervisors and teacher mentors who will use the Danielson Framework and Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) for ongoing feedback and final evaluation. For the SWD All Grades certification and bilingual extension, placements will include possible settings in diverse PreK-12 inclusive, resource, self-contained and/or ESL/ENL classrooms.

Upon successful completion of all program courses and satisfaction of any/all undergraduate deficiencies candidates register for:

  • Credits: 3.00
  • OR

  • Credits: 3.00
  • OR

  • Advisor approved elective if teaching experience meets NYS Limited Exemption for candidates with prior teaching experience (see note below).           

    Note: A candidate who is enrolled in a graduate-level program leading to certification in one or more certificates shall be exempt from the requirements for clinical experiences if such candidate satisfies one or more of the following conditions: 1) they have completed a New York State registered teacher preparation program prior to enrollment and hold an Initial and/or Professional certificate 2) hold National Board certification or 3) have at least one year of effective teaching under a valid New York State or out-of-state teaching license or certificate.

Additional Requirements for Program Completion/State Certification


  • Satisfactory completion of Content Core Requirements and General Education courses, including a foreign language
  • Maintenance of 3.0 GPA in all program coursework
  • All teacher certification candidates must take and pass the New York State Teacher’s Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) required for their particular area of certification which includes the Content Specialty Test in Multisubject, Students with Disabilities and the BEA
  • Candidates will be required to complete the NYSED DASA workshop
