The BS to PMHNP DNP concentration in psychiatric mental health entails in depth study of psychiatric-mental health nursing across the lifespan. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge and practice skills in order to prepare nurses at the graduate level for care of psychiatric –mental health clients, individuals, families and communities. Students meet the required competencies for therapy and prescribing in order to apply for advanced practice licensing and national certification.  Students have opportunities to work with advanced practice psychiatric nurses and other mental health professionals in a variety of clinical settings.

This program also prepares diverse clinical practitioners who can influence health care outcomes, and apply the best evidence to best clinical practices. The DNP graduate will be able to improve patient outcomes and health care systems, and provide leadership in health policy that will ensure improvements in population and global health. The DNP graduate as a collaborative leader will be in a position to analyze complex organizational and clinical practice issues and effect improvements in health care delivery models, with a particular focus on psychiatric-mental health.

The program also admits advanced standing students who have a Masters in Nursing and PMHNP national board certification (see sequencing plan).
