Minor Computer Science / MS in Computer Science

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Arts and Sciences

The accelerated pathway Minor in Computer Science / MS in Computer Science enables students to complete an undergraduate degree in any field and an MS in Computer Science within 5 years of study. Students must minor in Computer Science while they are completing their undergraduate degree.

A maximum of twelve credits associated with graduate courses in the MS in Computer Science may be applied to the undergraduate degree. These twelve graduate credits are individualized and designated by the Graduate Program Director/Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Upon earning their Bachelors Degree, and with permission of the Graduate Program Director/Chair, students may matriculate into the Master of Science degree.

The graduate credits earned while completing the student’s undergraduate degree requirements will be added to the graduate transcript, enabling the completion of the Master of Science in Computer Science with as little as 18 credits in the fifth year.

4+1 Criteria (include GPA requirements):

  • Students must meet all of the requirements of the undergraduate minor, as well as those relevant to the overall undergraduate degree;
  • Students must complete CSC 273 Data Structures and CSC 344 Algorithms and Complexity as part of the undergraduate plan of study. These courses may also be used to satisfy the elective requirements in the minor.
  • Earn a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher in courses that are part of the Minor in Computer Science at the time of graduating from the undergraduate major;
  • Have permission of the Graduate Program Director for Computer Science to enroll in the designated graduate level courses in Computer Science, subject to the requirements of each degree at the time of entry;
  • Only graduate courses with an earned grade of B (3.0/4.0) or higher, taken while enrolled as an undergraduate, will also count toward the Master’s degree requirements.
  • Matriculate into the Master’s program immediately upon completing the Bachelor’s degree.
