The post-master’s advanced certificate in nursing education prepares students as nurse educators competent to function in a variety of academic and clinical settings. As students develop in this advanced practice role, they will acquire knowledge, skills and values related to teaching and learning, instructional design, assessment and measurement strategies, and curriculum development, implementation and evaluation in nursing education. The program also incorporates contemporary practices and theories with regard to the use of simulation in nursing education and clinical teaching for future nurses. After completing the program, graduates will be able to assist in meeting the educational needs of the nursing profession and healthcare consumers; integrate scholarly processes in nursing education practice; develop, implement and evaluate innovative approaches to nursing education; and advance the professional role of the nurse educator.

PREREQUISITES:

     NUR (0302) 756 - Advanced Pathophysiology Across the Adult Geriatric Lifespan  

     NUR (0302) 763 - Advanced Pharmacology  

     NUR (0302) 764 - Advanced Physical Assessment of the Adult   

The admissions criteria listed are minimum requirements. The College of Nursing and Public Health reserves the right to request additional materials from applicants on an as-needed basis.

Plan of Study


The advanced certificate in Nursing Education is a specialty program with credit allocation as follows: 14 credits in specialty course content which prepares students for advanced practice in all aspects of adult learning, teaching and education. 2 credits (200 hours) in clinical practicums. Three prerequisites courses are required if the applicant has not completed them prior to acceptance into the program: (1) Advanced Physical Assessment Across the Lifespan (3 credits); (2) Advanced Pharmacology (3 credits); and (3) Advanced Pathophysiology (3 credits). These courses are also offered and can be taken at Adelphi.
