3+4 Pathway with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM)
Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from Adelphi University/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine
Adelphi University has a 3+4 pathway with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in which students’ study for three years at Adelphi. After completing 90 credits at Adelphi, students begin
their first year of medical school which counts as the final 30 credits needed to be eligible for the bachelor’s degree at Adelphi. The bachelor’s degree will be awarded by Adelphi University after the first year of medical school. After
successful completion of the fourth year at NYITCOM, students are eligible for the D.O. degree. For more information on the program academic/standardized test requirements and the application deadline, please click here. Eligibility to this program is limited to five first year students.
3+4 Pathway Admissions Eligibility Requirements
- Completion of at least (90) credits of course work at Adelphi, including completion of all General Education requirements, all major coursework and the following pre-requisite coursework:
o Biology with lab: BIO 111 & BIO 112
o Chemistry with lab: CHE 111 & CHE 112
o Organic Chemistry with lab: CHE 251 /CHE 253 & CHE 252 /CHE 254
o Physics with lab: PHY 111 or PHY 113 ; PHY 112 or PHY 114
o 2 English Classes
o Additionally, students should also take:
Biochemistry with lab: CHE 471 /CHE 473 or BIO 504 (MCAT Prep), Statistics: MTH 113 or MTH 114 , Psychology: PIA 101 (MCAT prep) and Sociology: SOC 100 (MCAT prep)
- No final grade below a C in any course.
- Earn an overall science grade point average of 3.5 each semester with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. (Adelphi may approve a onetime waiver for a semester GPA less than 3.5.)
- Declare their intention to apply for admission at NYITCOM – Jonesboro, Arkansas or NYITCOM – Long Island, New York by the end of their second year. Requests for a change of campus after the second year will be addressed by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis.
- Take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) by September of junior year (may take again in January) and earn a score at least equal to the mean MCAT score of the applicable NYITCOM campus first year class of the year the student began undergraduate study.
- The student must submit a formal AACOMAS application by January 15 th of junior year. The supplemental application must be completed immediately following the AACOMAS application.
- Receive a favorable recommendation from the Adelphi Pre-Health Council.
- Interview with the NYITCOM Admissions Committee in late winter/spring of junior year.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.
