Well-prepared nutrition professionals can help address the global public health issues of malnutrition, both under- and over-nutrition, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, which together affect more than two billion people. The 12-course, 34-credit and 100-percent online Master of Science in Nutrition will prepare you to help your community ensure a healthy future. The program is designed for the professional who is already licensed and practicing in their field and who has a bachelor’s or graduate degree (nurses, physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, etc.). Upon completing the integrated, evidence-based course work culminating in a practicum with thesis, you will have an excellent understanding of nutrition science. The graduates of this program are nutritionists and will be able to assume key roles in a variety of areas in the following public and private settings: community and public health, education and research, clinical, business and industry, wellness and media.

Admissions Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • Minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average
  • Completion of the prerequisite courses listed below, including an undergraduate introductory nutrition course, an introductory statistics course, a human anatomy and physiology two-course sequence with laboratory, and a minimum four-credit chemistry course with laboratory.
  • Completion of an application form for the Master of Science in Nutrition degree program. This graduate degree program is housed in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences in the College of Education and Health Sciences.
  • Completion of a 500-word essay on reasons for applying to the program
  • Completion of a personal interview (not required to be on campus, can be via electronic technology)
  • Submission of two letters of recommendation
