Admission Requirements
For Students Enrolled at Adelphi University in Fall 2018 and Before
A. Applicant must have completed all the prerequisite course requirements at Adelphi.
B. For guaranteed admission, Adelphi University students seeking admission into the program at SEAS will be required to complete all the prerequisite course requirements as detailed in the Pre-Combined Plan Curriculum Guide available at https://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/apply/combined-plan. A minimum of 3.30 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), as calculated by SEAS is required for Guaranteed Admission. However, applicants with a GPA 3.0 to 3.29 cumulative GPA may apply and they may be admitted on an individual basis.
C. The applicants must have been full time students at Adelphi University for at least two years before applying to Columbia. 4-2 students must have graduated from Adelphi University within the past year to be considered for guaranteed admission; any wishing to apply beyond one year after graduation will be considered on an individual basis.
D. Each pre-requisite course must be taken at Adelphi University; courses taken at other institutions or credit awarded by advanced placement may be accepted by SEAS based on the recommendation of the Combined Plan Program Director at Adelphi and at the discretion of SEAS
E. All applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency if the native language is not English as detailed at Columbia website
F. Students must have three positive letters of recommendation from Adelphi University: one from the Dual-Degree Engineering Director (Liaison), one from a science professor, and one from a mathematics professor. Both professors need to have taught the student in his/her sophomore year or later.
G. Applicants who do not meet the above criteria may apply and may be admitted on an individual basis.
For Students Enrolled at Adelphi University in Fall 2019 or After
The students should satisfy the following requirements at Adelphi University to be competitive for admission. Even if an applicant achieves the outlined recommendations, admission to the program is not guaranteed.
A. Applicant must have completed all the prerequisite course requirements at Adelphi.
B. A minimum of 3.30 cumulative GPA as calculated by SEAS, is recommended for admission. However, applicants with a 3.0 -3.29 cumulative GPA will be considered for admission to the program. In addition, the minimum grade of each pre-engineering science and mathematics prerequisite must be B the first time the course was taken.
