Adelphi Plus Learning Community is a one-year, intensive program for first year students who opt into the program to take small classes and benefit from the individualized attention offered by the program. In addition to a rigorous liberal arts curriculum, the program provides comprehensive academic support services, including individual coaching and counseling. Students may declare a major or minor while registered in the Adelphi Plus Learning Community, and may enroll in another learning community upon completion of their membership in the Adelphi Plus Learning Community.

Adelphi Plus Learning Community Curriculum

Adelphi Plus Learning Community students take 7 credits specifically within the program each semester (This does not include any additional course work, which may count towards their major, minor, or General Education requirements). The Adelphi Plus course work, which meets all Adelphi degree requirements, is challenging and rigorous, and focuses on developing each student’s capacity to read, write, and think in a creative and sophisticated manner.

Faculty Academic Coaches and Counselors

First year students benefit by strengthening their academic skills: critical reading and writing; problem solving; studying; and taking tests. To aid them in developing these abilities during their transition from high school to college, faculty academic coaches work diligently with Adelphi Plus Learning Community students. On entry to the program, all Adelphi Plus Learning Community students are assigned to a dedicated academic coach, who works with and mentors them.  Furthermore, recognizing that the psychological and emotional lives of students play an important role in determining academic success, Adelphi Plus Learning Community students participate in counseling sessions, conducted by full-time transition counselors who can help students make the adjustments that college life demands.
