4+4 Preferred Admissions Program with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine


Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from Adelphi University/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine


Adelphi University has a Preferred Admissions Program with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in which students’ study for four years at Adelphi and earn their B.S. or B.A. degree. The Preferred Admissions Program is designed to facilitate the admission of Adelphi University students into PCOM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. After successful completion of the fourth year at PCOM, students are eligible for the D.O. degree. Eligibility to this program is limited to three first-year students plus alternates.

PCOM – Medicine Program Admissions Eligibility Requirements 

  • Completion of B.S. or B.A. degree with Adelphi and the following pre-requisite coursework at Adelphi:

          - Biology with lab: BIO 111  & BIO 112  

          - Chemistry with lab: CHE 111  & CHE 112  

          - Organic Chemistry with lab: CHE 251  /CHE 253  & CHE 252  /CHE 254  

          - Physics with lab: PHY 111  or PHY 113  & PHY 112   or PHY 114  

          - 2 English Classes

          - Additionally, students must take:

                Biochemistry with lab: CHE 471  /CHE 473   or BIO 504  : Statistics MTH 113   or MTH 114 , Psychology: PIA 101   and Sociology: SOC 100  

  •  Maintain a 3.5 overall GPA and 3.5 science GPA.
  •  No final grade below a C in any course.
  •  Take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) no later than the September of the senior year.  The candidate must earn a minimum score of the fiftieth percentile (50%) in each section of   the MCAT.
  •  The student must submit a formal AACOMAS application by October 31st of senior year. The supplemental application must be completed by November 30th.
  •  Receive a favorable recommendation from the Adelphi Pre-Health Council.

          - Must submit a letter of recommendation from an Osteopathic Physician (D.O.)

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.
