FULLY ONLINE: Our three programs in Educational Theatre are fully online and freed from the constraints of traditional schedules and formats. The online learning communities we create are lively, meaningful, and deeply personal spaces to explore creativity and the arts supported by a university that has a long history of championing the arts as part of a rich and deeply human education.

INTEGRATED AND NON-TRADITIONAL:  Our courses are designed with a multi-arts approach that integrates creative writing, storytelling, movement, performance, and visual arts, and views traditional educational subjects such as literacy, special education, foundations, and psychology through a decidedly arts-based lens.

INNOVATIVE AND EXPERIENTIAL: Our core courses in Educational Theatre cultivate an experiential, exploratory approach to learning deepened by the Michael Chekhov system of mind-body awareness.

We offer two fully online Master of Arts programs and a fully online post-graduate Advanced Certificate. The MA in Educational Theatre P-12 is a teacher certification program designed to address the needs of theatre majors who are interested in earning NYS certification in theatre P-12.  We also offer an MA in Educational Theatre, Storytelling and the Arts, non-certification, designed to nurture educators without a theatre major who would like to learn how to integrate dramatic play and other arts into their teaching practice. For students who already hold a masters degree, we offer an advanced certificate leading to NYS certification in Theatre, P-12.

We offer two Master of Arts in Educational Theatre programs. The M.A. in Educational Theatre, P-12 is a teacher certification program designed to address the needs of performers who are interested in earning NYS certification in theatre P-12.  We also offer the M.A. in Educational Theatre, Storytelling and the Arts, non-certification, designed to nurture creative individuals of diverse academic backgrounds who would like to engage in an integrated approach to learning through the arts across the lifespan and within various educational settings.

Both programs offer a deeply experiential curriculum that brings learning alive and addresses the potential of the arts to address the needs of all learners. The program offers opportunities to explore collaborations within our thriving campus arts community and within the greater New York metropolitan region as well as offering interdisciplinary arts workshops, summer intensives, and online learning opportunities.

The M.A. in Educational Theatre, P-12 is 33 credits and culminates with a student teaching semester taken at the end of the program. Applicants for this program must have successfully completed an undergraduate major in theatre or the equivalent.

The 33 credit non-certification program in Educational Theatre,  Storytelling and the Arts offers similar coursework to the certification program (with a core of educational theatre, arts education courses, and individualized electives), but does not require the final student teaching semester. The non-certification program is open to all interested graduate candidates, regardless of prior study, and is particularly suited for interdisciplinary artists of all domains: actors, dancers, poets, playwrights, musicians, other performers, and visual artists.
