General Education Requirements


All students must satisfy the University’s General Education requirements  and foreign language requirements, in addition to the requirements for the major in philosophy.

Electives (12 credits)


Philosophy Electives must be selected in consultation with the adviser.

Senior Projects for Majors (PHI 498/499)


Though not required, this two semester research project is highly recommended, especially for those expecting to do graduate work in philosophy; no student will be awarded honors in philosophy without completing it.

*PHI 395  is an Independent study, taken in conjunction with an upper-level philosophy course where students are provided with close supervision on an extended writing project. Students can take this course earlier and repeat it.

**Students may elect to sit for the language competency examination to be exempt from the foreign language requirement.
