The post-master’s advanced certificate in nursing education prepares students as nurse educators competent to function in a variety of educational and healthcare settings, but primarily to assume responsibilities as faculty members in baccalaureate nursing programs. As students develop in this advanced practice role, they will acquire knowledge, skills, and values related to teaching and learning, instructional design, assessment and measurement strategies, and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation in nursing education. The program also incorporates contemporary practices and theories with regard to the use of simulation in nursing education and clinical teaching for future nurses. Prerequisites for the certificate are three graduate-level pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment courses. After completing the program, graduates will be able to assist in meeting the educational needs of the nursing profession and healthcare consumers; integrate scholarly processes in nursing education practice; develop, implement and evaluate innovative approaches to nursing education; and advance the professional role of the nurse educator.
