Managerial practice is as diverse as the business world itself. Some managers choose to specialize in one of the functional areas of business such as marketing, finance, human resources, and manufacturing. Some managers are staff specialists who prepare information for colleagues to act upon; others are line managers who implement decisions and supervise the actions that result from those decisions. Senior managers, however, most often work from a more generalized point of view. Management majors in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business have the opportunity to consider all of these managerial modes before embarking on their careers.
