(46 credits)

The Concentration in Vocal Performance for the Bachelor of Science in Music provides training for young singers in preparation for graduate studies as well as pursuance of professional performance employment and opportunities. Students in this concentration will work with our faculty to develop a varied and primarily solo repertoire that demonstrates a high level of achievement as a singer. Private Instruction in Voice is supplemented by courses in diction, literature, pedagogy, acting, and performance within a small ensemble. All B.S. in Music Majors are required to perform a Senior Recital for their Capstone; students who take this concentration will also be required to perform a half recital during their junior year. Curricular work will be supplemented through involvement in Master Classes offered by professional performers invited by the Department of Music. Vocal Performance Concentration Contact/Adviser: Sidney Marquez Boquiren

General Education

All students must satisfy the University’s General Education requirements , in addition to the requirements for the major. Students completing the B.A. degree in the College of Arts and Sciences must also satisfy the University’s foreign language requirement. There is no University requirement for a foreign language for the B.A. degree awarded by other schools of the University or for other bachelor’s degrees such as the B.S. or B.F.A.

Concentration Requirements

(an additional 16 credits)

Note:

Concentrations are not required for major but they do provide training to students in preparation for graduate studies as well as professional activities outside of academia.  A concentration in vocal performance requires an additional 15 credits beyond the 42 credits for a B.S. in Music.
