The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies is a degree completion program for adult students who have earned a minimum of 60 hours of transferable credits at other institutions. The program is designed for students who have no practical way of completing their degree through traditional, full-time, on-campus study. The Liberal Studies degree program does not have a traditional major. B.A. in Liberal Studies students choose courses at least one of four possible concentrations: psychology, social science, business, and emergency services administration.

To graduate, candidates must complete at least 120 credits, 90 of which must be in the liberal arts. The final 30 must be taken at the University and no more than 30 credits may be awarded through Prior Learning. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in their concentration and a minimum GPA of 2.0 from Adelphi overall.

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies General Education and Core Requirements

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies students must meet the requirement of four core courses and six distribution courses, as described here.

Minimum 60 credits in transfer with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

Liberal Studies Requirements

Students are required to complete ONE concentration. Students may opt to complete a second concentration.

A minimum of five courses is required to complete a concentration.

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies Bachelor Degree Capstone Courses

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies bachelor’s degree programs (excepting the B.S. in Business, the B.S. in Criminal Justice, and the B.A. in Psychology), are completed by taking a sequence of two 4-credit capstone courses:

UCI (0637) 405 - Capstone II Baccalaureate Capstone II: Research Seminar

The Baccalaureate Capstone is an interdisciplinary seminar that examines how the ideas of the modern age have challenged and altered traditional ways of thinking. As an analysis of the seminal ideas of modernity as defined by the thinkers who originated them, the Baccalaureate Capstone will empower students to think about the world in new and exciting ways.
