The Sport Management program prepares students for a career in the global sport industry, including, but not limited to, collegiate, professional, amateur, recreational and nonprofit sport organizations. Specialized concentration clusters include business/marketing, communications/public relations and psychology.  Students are introduced to sport marketing, sport communications and public relations, recreation administration, event operations, mass media, and technology, and gain proficiency in the principles of sport marketing and analysis, strategic communications, event management and sponsorship, youth/amateur sport programming, facility operations, business management, and more. 

General Education


All students must satisfy the University’s General Education requirements , in addition to the requirements for the major. Students completing the B.A. degree in the College of Arts and Sciences must also satisfy the University’s foreign language requirement. There is no University requirement for a foreign language for the B.A. degree awarded by other schools of the University or for other bachelor’s degrees such as the B.S. or B.F.A. 

Sport Management Foundational Courses


All sport management majors are required to take 24 credits of the foundational courses as outlined below.

Management, Marketing, Communications & Entrepreneurship Concentration


Students concentrating in management, marketing, communications & entrepreneurship are required to take the four (4) required courses listed below.

Electives in Management, Marketing, Communication & Entrepreneurship


Students choosing a concentration in Management, Marketing, Communication & Entrepreneurship are required to take 12 specialized credits in Management, Marketing, Communication & Entrepreneurship.

Youth Sport Programming & Recreational Sport Administration Concentration


Students concentrating in youth sport programming & recreational sport administration are required to take the four (4) courses listed below.

Electives in Youth Sport Programming & Recreational Sport Administration


Students choosing a concentration in Youth Sport Programming & Recreational Sport Administration are required to take 12 specialized credits in Youth Sport Programming & Recreational Sport Administration.

Strategic Sport Management Electives


Sport management majors are required to take 12 credits of strategic sport management electives in consultation with a program advisor from any of the following disciplines: SMP (0855), PED (0852), PES (0853), HED (0834), or ESC (0854)

Practicum


Sport management majors are required to take a minimum of three (3) credits of practicum and up to six (6) credits in total. Credits above three (3) can be counted toward the elective requirements.
