This post master’s advanced practice concentration entails in depth study of psychiatric-mental health nursing across the lifespan. The post master’s program is designed for students who are already licensed NPs in another specialty. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge and practice skills in order to prepare nurses at the graduate level for care of psychiatric –mental health clients, individuals, families and communities. Students meet the required competencies for therapy and prescribing in order to apply for advanced practice licensing and national certification.  Students have opportunities to work with advanced practice psychiatric nurses and other mental health professionals in a variety of clinical settings. The program requires 18 course credits including 500 hours of clinical experience in the specialty.

This certificate program prepares the nurse practitioner licensed in another specialty to gain the skills and knowledge as a psychiatric-metal health nurse practitioner. The program builds on the students’ completed master’s degree course work. Students have opportunities to work with advanced practice nurses and other health professionals in a variety of psychiatric-mental health clinical settings focusing on adults, adolescents and children with psychiatric disorders.
