NY State Program Code: 04084
Hegis Code: 0401.00
CIP Code: 26.0101

Students pursuing an M.S. in Biology may wish to choose a concentration, which is special grouping of related Biology and/or ancillary courses. This is an optional choice and the courses within the concentration are not additional to the degree program as they can be taken within the 33 or 36 credits needed for the degree. Only one concentration may be chosen.

For each concentration, students follow the requirements of the M.S. in Biology (follow the links to see the requirements for the thesis  or non-thesis  track), but must include the specified minimum number of credits for the concentration and the selection of the required courses or selections from the required groupings. Additional courses from the groupings (past the required number) also count toward the M.S. in Biology. Note that without specific approval, there is a limit of four courses at the 500 level that can be counted toward the M.S. in Biology. Also, with approval of the supervisory committee, up to 12 credits may be selected from graduate offerings in other departments.

The concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology requires 13 credits, as detailed below.

Required: At least one lab or field course
