The Master of Arts in Health Education program prepares student to teach Pre-K to 12 health education in schools. Students are prepared to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles through skills based learning strategies, relevant and developmentally appropriate assessment design, and understanding individual learning styles.

The program offers a plan of study for students who already hold a valid New York State initial/provisional teacher certification in health education and obtain professional certification after completion.

  • NYSED Regulations for Teacher Education Programs
    All programs leading to teacher, leader and pupil personnel certification comply with the following grade requirements from the New York State Education Department Office of Teaching Initiatives: 

    Content and Pedagogical Core Courses - Only courses with a grade of C or above for undergraduate level, and B- or above for graduate level courses are acceptable toward meeting content core requirements. 

    General Core in Liberal Arts & Sciences - The minimum grade requirement does not apply to coursework to satisfy the general core requirements, except where specified in certain coursework requirement descriptions.

  • Students will be reviewed as to their experience and course work. Where they have adequate course work at the undergraduate level, they will be waived from that requirement and allowed to take additional electives at the advanced level in health education or in related fields.

  • Before starting the program, students may be able to transfer up to 6 credits of non-Adelphi graduate level courses and/or up to 9 credits of Adelphi graduate level courses to the program upon adviser’s approval, not to exceed 9 total transfer credits.
