European Studies Minor

The European Studies Minor seeks to promote understanding and appreciation of the history, politics, literature, language, economics and culture of Europe. The minor provides a foundation for understanding the historical evolution of Europe as well as contemporary socio-political developments. The language component introduces students to the linguistic richness of Europe while the elective courses enable students to explore European culture, literature, philosophy, and society.

Requirements:
The European Studies minor is open to students of all majors. Student may count courses taken for the minor toward their General Education requirements if applicable. The European Studies Minor is composed of 18 credits, including two core required courses (6 credits), twelve credits of electives across a number of disciplines, and demonstrated proficiency or successful completion of Level IV in a European language other than English. Note: International Studies Majors must take an additional six credits of elective courses to qualify for a European Studies Minor. Core Courses
(6 Credits)
Two courses are required for the European Studies Minor. Neither course has pre-requisites, but it is recommended that students complete HIS 102 prior to taking POL 360 . Language Requirement
All students taking the European Studies minor must reach level IV proficiency in a European language other than English either through coursework or testing. Students who have completed high school in Europe may be exempted if they provide official documentation. Elective Courses
(12 Credits)
Students must complete twelve credits of electives, with at least one elective from each of the following groups of course electives. All of these courses are 3 credits each. International Studies Majors must take an additional six credits of elective courses to qualify for a European Studies Minor. Note:
1 Open only to History Majors.
2 Students taking this course must meet the pre-requisite of French Level IV.
3 Students taking this course must meet the pre-requisite of French Level IV.
4 Students taking this course must meet the pre-requisite of French Level IV.
5 Students taking this course must meet the pre-requisite of Spanish Level IV.
6 Students taking this course must meet the pre-requisite of Spanish Level IV.
7 Students taking this course must meet the pre-requisite of Spanish Level IV.
8 This course has been offered as a special topics in the past, reflecting the expertise of guest lecturers.
9 This course is generally only open to students majoring in Political Science. Non-majors may take the course with permission of the instructor. |
