4+4  EARLY INTERVIEW PROGRAM with  New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) College of Osteopathic Medicine

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from Adelphi University/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) College of Osteopathic Medicine

Early Interview Program with the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) College of Osteopathic Medicine, begun in 1977 is committed to training osteopathic physicians for a lifetime of learning and practice, based upon the integration of evidence-based knowledge, critical thinking, and the tenets of osteopathic principles and practice.  The school is also committed to preparing osteopathic physicians for careers in health care, including that in the inner city and rural communities, as well as to the scholarly pursuit of new knowledge concerning health and disease. The purpose of the Program is to provide an early interview for exceptional candidates with outstanding college records and correspondingly high MCAT scores, allowing them to distinguish themselves to the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (“NYITCOM”).

Requirements to Receive Early Interview


To be eligible for this early interview  program the applicant must have completed the first two years of undergraduate education at Adelphi University  and meet and maintain the following criteria:                                                    

           

*Overall and science grade point averages of 3.5

* A favorable recommendation by the Premedical Committee

* Letters of Recommendation from at least 3 science faculty.

* Letter of recommendation from a Physician, preferably an Osteopathic Physician.

 

Students in the Program may apply for admission through AACOMAS to NYITCOM following the completion of their third year of undergraduate education, and receive early interview consideration, if they meet the following criteria:

  • Maintain an overall and science grade point average of  3.5
  • An MCAT score (on the MCAT taken by September of the fourth academic year) of at least equal to the mean MCAT score of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine first year class of the year the student begins undergraduate study. 
  • Completion of a minimum of 8 hours of biology (course/lab), 8 hours each of inorganic and organic chemistry (course/lab), 8 hours of physics (course/lab), and 6 hours of English, with no grade below C in any of these courses or labs. Students are encouraged to enroll in additional courses such as calculus, anatomy, genetics, physical chemistry, behavioral sciences, biochemistry and neuroscience.
  • Passing a personal interview by NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty

Eligibility is not a guarantee that the candidate will be granted admission to NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine; candidates will be held to the same rigorous admissions standards as other applicants, and final decisions will be solely at the discretion of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine.
