The concentration in nursing administration prepares all levels of nurse administrators who can function in a variety of healthcare settings. The program incorporates contemporary management and leadership courses that focus on the essential core competencies for nurse administrators.

Students in the Nursing Administration program will develop expertise in quality improvement processes, strategic planning, hospital management, interprofessional collaboration, financial management, and resource allocation. Students also learn the art and science of nursing administration that combines effective leadership practices, values and evidence-based practice to promote a healthy work environment, lead effective changes, improve the health and safety of individuals, and achieve optimal, sustainable outcomes. 

Sample Plan of Study


The Master of Science (M.S.) in nursing administration is a specialty program with credit allocation as follows: 13 credits in core courses (required in all master’s level nursing degree programs); 13 credits in 7 nursing administration specialty courses; 12 credits of business skills, which include staff and hospital management, team building, negotiation and conflict resolutions.
