This advanced practice concentration entails in depth study of psychiatric-mental health nursing across the lifespan. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge and practice skills in order to prepare nurses at the graduate level for care of psychiatric –mental health clients, individuals, families and communities. Students meet the required competencies for therapy and prescribing in order to apply for advanced practice licensing and national certification.  Students have opportunities to work with advanced practice psychiatric nurses and other mental health professionals in a variety of clinical settings. The program requires 500 hours of clinical experience in the specialty.
