Students in the MS in Mathematics will have the opportunity to select a specialization in either applied mathematics or statistics.

The applied mathematics specialization will prepare students for careers in scientific computing and optimization.

The statistics specialization will prepare students to enter any field of statistics and will also give them the necessary background and experience to serve as a statistical consultant.

Students applying to this program must hold an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, in Applied Mathematics, in Statistics, or hold a closely related and/or equivalent degree. An official transcript must be provided. In addition, students must include three letters of recommendation and a personal essay in which the candidate describes their interest in the field and their personal goals. Students who are provisionally accepted must obtain at least a B in MTH 501 (Foundations of Applied Mathematics and Statistics).
