Asian Studies Minor

Required:


Students who wish to minor in Asian Studies will be required to choose a specific major, such as History, Political Science, Anthropology, or International Studies and must meet the credit requirements of the major, general education, and the minor in Asian Studies. NOTE: Most courses that meet the distribution requirements for this minor also meet the corresponding distribution requirement for General Education, but a few courses do not meet the General Education distribution requirements. Check on CLASS or with your adviser for information on which requirements are met by a specific course.

Students wishing to complete the Asian Studies minor must take a minimum of 21 credits by following one of the four program tracks.

Track A


(21 Credits)

  • Languages Credits: 6.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 9.00
  • Social and/or Natural Sciences Credits: 6.00

Track B


(21 Credits)

  • Languages Credits: 6.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 6.00
  • Social and/or Natural Sciences Credits: 9.00

Track C


(21 Credits)

  • Languages Credits: 12.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 3.00
  • Social and/or Natural Sciences Credits: 6.00

Track D


(21 Credits)

  • Languages Credits: 12.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 6.00
  • Social and/or Natural Sciences Credits: 3.00

Note:


*The language requirement can be waived at the discretion of the Director of Languages for students who demonstrate significant fluency in an Asian language; native speakers will be prohibited from taking entry-level courses, as in all language courses offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

Chinese and Japanese are the languages of study offered at Adelphi University for the Asian Studies program.
