The Undergraduate Psychology Major requires 41 credits to be completed in accordance with the plan of study for a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Students must successfully complete a Comprehensive Assessment Portfolio to continue in the major beyond the sophomore year or 60 credits. Transfer students will be advised on portfolio requirements on a case by case basis. During the course of their study, students must also complete the sequence of courses consistent with the General Education requirements. Every student is required to complete a minimum of 120 credits of academic work in order to be awarded a bachelor’s degree.

Comprehensive Assessment Portfolio (CAP) (0501-399)

(0 Credits, P/F/ grade)

Students will complete three to six CAP courses which will lead to the completion of their Comprehensive Portfolio Requirement.

Students must register for the CAP course when the Psychology Portfolio is completed. CAP Key Assignments from four of the following six courses must be submitted to the portfolio once the course is completed as follows: *CAP Courses– PIA 103 , PIA 240, PIA 245 , and one assignment from one of the domains of psychology 1)PIA 250  or PIA 272 or PIA 292 ; or 2) PIA 262  or PIA 284 , or 3) PIA 115 .

Students’ CAP will be reviewed by their advisors and those students who are not achieving an adequate level of competency will be offered remediation while enrolled in the CAP course. The CAP is a requirement for students wishing to continue in the major and the estimated time of completion is 60 credits. Once the portfolio is completed and is ready for review, students must register for the CAP review course, 0501-399.

General Education


All students must satisfy the University’s General Education requirements , in addition to the requirements for the major. Students completing the B.A. degree must also satisfy the University’s foreign language requirement. There is no University requirement for a foreign language for other bachelor’s degrees such as the B.S. or B.F.A.
