The BFA in Art Education prepares students to be innovative, skilled, caring teaching-artists for diverse learners across a range of educational settings including:

·         Pre-K through 12 public, private and charter schools

·         Museums

·         Community-based organizations

·         Other entrepreneurial endeavors

We view teaching art and design as a creative process that is fostered by intensive studio preparation within an interdisciplinary context. Students learn a range of ways to make, present, interpret, and teach art and design as well as how to collaborate across a variety of disciplines and communities in the process.

We encourage our students to be advocates for the arts in this global, culturally diverse, and technological world. Graduates receive a BFA in Art Education and are eligible for a pre-K – 12 NY State Visual Arts Education credential.

The program has a growing list of partners and projects in the Long Island and New York City Metro area as well as internationally. Other projects are developed in response to student, faculty and alumni interests and include exhibition opportunities and visiting lecturers in the arts and education.(see appropriate section under the College of Arts and Sciences in this Bulletin), while taking the following art education sequence:
