Advanced Certificate in Childhood Special Education (Grades 1-6)

Note: A Masters Degree and a valid N.Y.S. Certification in Childhood Education is required for entrance into this program.

This program leads to certification in Students with Disabilities, Grades 1-6

Note:

Courses are 3 credits unless noted otherwise.

Prerequisite Courses

May be taken concurrently with foundation 700-level courses

• EEC (0810) 600 - Intro to Special Ed Credits: 3.00 * (25 hours)
• EEC (0810) 700 - Foundations, Families,Cultures and Learning Credits: 3.00 * (10 hours)

Foundation Core Courses

• EEC (0810) 710 - Classroom Management Credits: 3.00 * (25 hours)
• EEC (0810) 720 - Formal and Informal Meth of Assessment Credits: 3.00 (25 hours)
• EEC (0810) 705 - Team Collaboration Credits: 3.00
• EEC (0810) 750 - Methods of Instruction Credits: 3.00 * (25 hours)

Student Teaching/Reflective Practice

(waived for those who have student taught or are employed in an Inclusive setting)

Prior to student teaching completion of all program courses, and passing scores on all required NYS teacher certification examinations are required. Candidates register for:

EEC 822  is only available to certified teachers who are working full time in regular education

• EEC (0810) 821 - Practicum in Special Ed For Teachers Certified in Other Areas Credits: 3.00 (fall or spring)

• EEC (0810) 822 - Practicum/Childhood Special Ed for Teachers Certified in Other Areas Credits: 3.00
