ABC (0101) 295 - Race, Gender, and Health

An interdisciplinary approach is used to examine how race and gender affect the physical and mental health of individuals, groups, and communities both singly, together, and in complex interactions with other identities and social statuses.  Differences in exposure, access, experiences, treatment, and outcomes are explored using a social justice lens.

Repeatable: No Grade Type: Regular or Pass/Fail
Course Learning Goals: By the end of the course, students will be able to:
(1) Analyze how race and gender shape health experiences within historical, cultural, and social contexts.
(2) Identify inequities in healthcare access, treatment, and outcomes linked to race and gender.
(3) Assess current health research, interventions, and policies.
(4) Develop strategies to promote health equity and address systemic disparities.
(5) Enhance their awareness of factors that promote or hinder individual and community well-being.
