ACC (0201) 701 - Data Analytics For Accountants – From Excel to Power BI Credits: 3.00
This course will help students learn how to use Excel-based techniques in professional environments. Students will also learn how to work with very large volumes of data by importing data from Excel and other platforms into Power BI; navigate the Power BI environment; and design Power BI visuals and reports.
Repeatable: No Grade Type: Regular Free Note: Students will need to provide their own computers for all course sessions with the required Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI software installed.
Course Learning Goals: Upon the completion of this course, the successful student should be able to
- describe the meaning, uses and limitations of data analytics in general and in accounting in particular
- demonstrate the use of different formulas and functions in Excel and create useful visualizations with charts and graphs
- create automation in spreadsheets and learn how to use Excel to forecast and model data
- apply conditional logic to help make informed business decisions
- analyze data using PivotTable, Pivot Charts and Slicers in Excel
- develop familiarity with operating in the Power BI environment, including using the three views of Power BI, namely, the Report View, Table View, and Model View
- import data from Excel and other applications into Power BI, and use Power Query to transform data
- build data models using Power Pivot, calculations, and hierarchies
- create visuals and reports in Power BI
