ACC (0201) 701 - Data Analytics For Accountants – From Excel to Power BI


Credits: 3.00

This course will help students learn how to use Excel-based techniques in professional environments. Students will also learn how to work with very large volumes of data by importing data from Excel and other platforms into Power BI; navigate the Power BI environment; and design Power BI visuals and reports.

Free Note: Students will need to provide their own computers for all course sessions with the required Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI software installed.

Course Learning Goals: Upon the completion of this course, the successful student should be able to

  1. describe the meaning, uses and limitations of data analytics in general and in accounting in particular
  2. demonstrate the use of different formulas and functions in Excel and create useful visualizations with charts and graphs
  3. create automation in spreadsheets and learn how to use Excel to forecast and model data
  4. apply conditional logic to help make informed business decisions
  5. analyze data using PivotTable, Pivot Charts and Slicers in Excel
  6. develop familiarity with operating in the Power BI environment, including using the three views of Power BI, namely, the Report View, Table View, and Model View
  7. import data from Excel and other applications into Power BI, and use Power Query to transform data
  8. build data models using Power Pivot, calculations, and hierarchies
  9. create visuals and reports in Power BI
