ACC (0201) 301 - Data Analytics for Accountants Using Microsoft Excel


Credits: 3.00

This course is meant for students who are in the early stages of learning the fundamentals of data analytics. At the end of this course, students will gain exposure to using Excel in efficiently navigating big datasets in different accounting and finance-related scenarios and in creating effective data visualization.

Repeatable: No Grade Type: Regular or Pass/Fail
Course Learning Goals:

Upon the completion of this course, the successful student should be able to

  1. understand the meaning, uses and limitations of data analytics in general and in accounting in particular.
  2. prepare data for analysis and conduct a basic data audit including establishing data internal controls.
  3. demonstrate the ability to sort, rearrange, merge, and reconfigure data to engage in enhanced analysis.
  4. perform different types of data analytics.
  5. communicate the results of data analytics with the use of tables and visuals.
  6. develop reasonable proficiency in written communication through class participation and selected assignments.
