ENV (0125) 506 - Environmental Justice and Community Sustainability


Credits: 3.00

Students will analyze how inequities in race and class influence exposure to environmental harms and how better planning can reduce disparities. Group projects will explore how communities on various scales can respond to their unique challenges, using lenses such as climate resilience, human geography, organizing, public health, and social work.

Course Learning Goals: Students will be able to:

1) analyze inequities in exposures to environmental harms and goods

2) describe an overview of the history of the environmental justice movement

3) discuss different intersectional perspectives on climate change and other sustainability issues

4) collaborate with peers to develop community plans on things such as climate resilience, reducing environmental exposure inequities, and increasing community cohesion
