POL (0158) 373 - Government Design Around the World


Credits: 3.00

Students will take an in-depth look at the institutions of modern governments worldwide, across democracies and dictatorships. Students will examine the design and role of executives, bureaucracies, courts, elections, and political parties. Students will also evaluate the performance of these institutions in terms of representation, accountability, and effectiveness.

Repeatable: No Grade Type: Regular or Pass/Fail
Course Learning Goals: By the completion of this course, students will be able to:

Identify and apply the debates in institutional design and adoption.

Deduce the behavioral motivation of government institutions.

Differentiate the functioning of government institutions by articulating the role of government institutions in political and economic competitions.

Arrange the domestic politics of the world’s governments in a framework to understand how these governments behave comparatively.
