MTH (0144) 220 - Mathematics for Secondary School Teachers Credits: 3.00
Students will rigorously investigate the theory and skills that underpin high school mathematics, based on the NY State Common Core Standards and NCTM’s Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, and integrating appropriate use of the graphing calculator.

Course Learning Goals: Students will reason and communicate mathematics using deductive and inductive reasoning. This objective will be measured by all course assessments.
Students will convey the meaning of mathematical concepts and symbols and to communicate these ideas via writing. This objective will be measured by all course assessments.
Students will apply multiple representations to connect mathematical ideas and solve problems (modeling). This objective will be measured by all course assessments.
Students will apply the principles and properties or patterns, algebraic operations, relations, and functions. This objective will be measured by quizzes 1-4, and the first examination.
Students will apply the principles and techniques of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, sequence and series, and statistics to model and solve problems. This objective will be measured by quizzes 7-10, and the final examination.
Students will apply the principles of axiomatic and coordinate geometry. This objective will be measured by quizzes 8-10, and the final examination.
Students will apply mathematical principles and techniques to model and solve problems involving vector and transformational geometries. This objective will be measured by quizzes 8-10, and the final examination.
Students will solve problems graphically, numerically, analytically, or algebraically. This objective will be measured by all course assessments.
Students will apply their knowledge of the graphing calculator and computer application software to demonstrate their understanding of various concepts. This objective will be measured by all course assessments, because technology will intertwined throughout the course.
