Students will explore different concepts of disability through stories, theatre, film, and scholarly work. Students will examine disability rights, disability culture, disability discrimination, deaf culture, and the disability experience. Students will explore their own relationships to disability and ability and create a theatre piece together.

Course Learning Goals: By the end of the semester students will:
1. Discuss, evaluate and apply different understandings of disability as theorized within disability studies;
2. Convey an understanding of how individual and group experiences are shaped by the values society places on ability as it is institutionalized into the structure of everyday life;
3. Conduct critical analyses of contemporary disability issues;
4. Apply this knowledge, these skills and concepts in the analysis of society and everyday life and in practice as an aware and engaged member of society.
5. Create and perform original material (spoken word, monologue, scene) as a successful application of knowledge.
6. Develop oral communication skills.
