NUR (0302) 573 - Application of Human disease to Public Health Practice

Students will be introduced to major communicable diseases, chronic illness and conditions that face U.S. and Global populations.  Public health interventions to address potential, emerging and reemerging public health conditions and communicable diseases will be addressed.

Prerequisite 1: NUR 570 NUR 606  or NUR 620  
Course Learning Goals: Upon completion of this course students will be able to:1. Describe the functioning of organs and organ systems2. Discuss major diseases, in terms of:a. Signs and symptomsb. Treatment and potential complicationsc. Implications for public healthd. Economic impacte. Related issues of quality of life.3. Describe commonly used screenings and diagnostic tests4. Identify and discuss three levels of prevention5. Discuss patient safety and medical errors
