SWK (0404) 775 - Collaborative behavioral health care modalities for children and adolescents Credits: 3.00
This course examines a variety of evidence-based social work practice modalities in direct work with children, adolescents, and their families. Assessment and interventive skills from modalities such as Suicide Safer Care, TF-CBT and Behavioral Activation are studied as they pertain to collaborative health care settings such as hospitals, schools and child welfare settings.
Prerequisite 1: SWK 521 Repeatable: No Grade Type: Regular Course Learning Goals: Upon completion of this course, students are able to:
- Display knowledge about the theoretical underpinnings of the following Evidence-Based Practices: Suicide Safer Care, TF-CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioral Activation Problem Solving Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Corresponds to Competency 4, Practice Behavior A);
- Practice on a clinical level with children, adolescents and young adults in a variety of primary care behavioral health settings using the Collaborative Care Model. (Corresponds to Competency 1 - Practice Behavior A, Competency 2 - Practice Behavior A, Competency 4 – Practice Behavior A, Competency 6 – Practice Behavior A, B, Competency 7, Practice Behavior A, B);
- Apply knowledge of human diversity as it relates to children, adolescents and their caregivers, and its impact on behavioral health practice with individuals and families. (Corresponds to Competency 2 - Practice Behavior A, B);
- Demonstrate knowledge of Suicide Safer Care, TF-CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioral Activation Problem Solving Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy and the ability to integrate these approaches according to the needs of a given client system (Competency 4 – Practice Behavior A, Competency 6 – Practice Behavior A, B, Competency 7, Practice Behavior A, B);
- Demonstrate skill in completing assessments and developing comprehensive treatment plans for children, adolescents and transitional age youth for those presenting with symptoms that may warrant a DSM-V diagnosis such as depression and anxiety (Competency 7, Practice Behavior A, B)
