HNU (0836) 557 - HNU - 557 - Nutrition Prevention and Treatment: Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Credits: 3.00
Students will explore the pathophysiology and medical nutrition therapy for both diabetes and cardiovascular disease including causes, prevention, treatment and use of nutrition assessment techniques. Students will develop clinical practice skills by using a case study approach.
Prerequisite 1: HNU 549 HNU 550 Repeatable: No Grade Type: Regular Free Note: This course is required for MS in Nutrition and Dietetic Students, other HSS students may take this course as an elective.
Course Learning Goals: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the prevalence, pathophysiology, and health consequences of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
2. Identify possible etiology, risk factors, prevention, and medical Nutrition therapy for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
3. Describe nutrition assessment techniques to evaluate dietary, biochemical, and anthropometric changes that relate to nutrition and the disease process of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
4. Create appropriate intervention plans for individuals with diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
5. Discuss case studies to develop clinical practice skills.
6. Apply evidenced based practice to design health promotion plans for diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention
