AIU (AIIU) 101 - Live, Learn & Grow I Credits: 1.00
The Live, Learn and Grow I course familiarizes first-year undergraduate international students with the U.S. university context and supports them in developing the academic, intercultural, and interpersonal skills that will enable them to succeed during and beyond their time in college.
Repeatable: Yes Grade Type: Regular Course Learning Goals:
- Use appropriate, professional communication when reaching out to professors and classmates
- Identify and describe similarities and differences between their home culture and U.S. university culture and apply intercultural communication strategies to bridge differences
- Discuss and compare cultural expectations for scholarship, including U.S. universities’ expectations for academic integrity
- Develop strategies for managing transition stress, including culture shock and homesickness
- Assess their competence with and develop success qualities, focusing on personal responsibility, time-management, self-motivation, and growth mindset
- Evaluate the effectiveness of their study habits and test preparation strategies, setting goals to improve areas of weakness
- Recognize and express their own perspectives, examine others’ perspectives, and identify influences on both
- Explain how cultural interactions influence situations, events, issues, and the development of knowledge
- Listen to and communicate effectively with diverse people, using appropriate verbal and nonverbal behavior, languages, and strategies
