SPY (0504) 644 - Roles and Functions of School Psychologists


Credits: 3.00

Students will learn the roles and functions of school psychologists, including the development of the specialty, delivery models, and assessment and intervention practices. Students will also review the provision of comprehensive and integrated school psychological services as outlined by the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association.

Course Learning Goals: In this course students will:

 

  1. Learn the history, current roles and challenges facing the field of school psychology. [NASP III, IV-4.1, IV-4.2, V, V-5.2, VI]. APA Knowledge Area: History and Systems. B.

 

  1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the practitioner-scientist model for school psychology, and outline the role of research and program evaluation in the data-based decision-making process. [NASP II, VIII-8.1] (APA C-8D Research). APA Knowledge Area: History and Systems. C.

 

  1. Explore legal and ethical standards governing the practice of school psychology. [NASP VIII-8.2] (APA C-8D Ethical and legal standards). APA Knowledge Area: History and Systems. D.
