MTH (0144) 250 - Multivariable Mathematics Credits: 4.00
Students will learn aspects of algebra, including the geometry and algebra of vectors, systems of linear equations, matrices and linear transformations, diagonalization and eigenvectors, and vector valued functions. Students also explore functions of several variables, parametric curves, partial derivatives and gradients, chain rule in several variables, and multiple integration.
Prerequisite 1: MTH 142 Free Note: Grade C- or better in MTH 142. Course does not count for credit for students in the BS in Mathematics.
Students will make use of linear algebra techniques involving vectors and matrices to
formulate and solve algebraic problems involving multiple variables. This objective will be measured by quizzes 1 – 3 and the first examination.
● Students will interpret and combine concepts from algebra, geometry, and calculus with a focus on visual interpretation and graphical representation. This major objective will be assessed by all course assessments.
● Students will make use of systems of linear equations and matrices to explain behaviors of the real numbers in higher dimensions. This objective will be measured by quizzes 4-6, and examination 2.
● Students will extend ideas from single variable calculus to study aspects of motion in three dimensions. This objective will be assessed by quizzes 7-10, and the final examination.
